Ever considered the art of running a restaurant to be similar to that of taking to the stage in front of thousands of adoring fans? Restaurateur Ken Friedman thinks that’s exactly what it’s like, and he may have a point.

Friedman got his first big break in the music industry but now runs the renowned Spotted Pig restaurant in New York City. With frequent guests that include Coldplay, Kanye West and Jay Z, it’s one of the Big Apple’s main places to be if you have a significant connection with the music industry.

In our blog of the week, Friedman explains how running a restaurant involves giving the audience what they want and creating concepts that are “made by an artist for an artist”. To round off the music connotations, he even suggests that the challenges of opening a second restaurant are akin to those of releasing the famed ‘difficult second album’.

Agree with him or not, you can’t help but admire this restaurateur’s passion for his business. Plenty to be inspired by!
