We’re going to take a wild stab in the dark and guess that A) you’ve heard of Pokemon Go but, B) you have absolutely no idea what it is all about.
Don’t worry – you’re not alone. The smartphone-based game that has taken the US by storm landed in the UK this week. Simply put, it encourages people to get up, leave their homes and walk around streets and parks looking for little monsters by gazing through the glass of their smartphone. As a tech commentator wryly pointed out, Niantic, the developer behind Pokemon Go, appears to have achieved the impossible by creating a smartphone game you can’t play on the toilet. Clever. And a bit too much information. Sorry.
Pokemon Go has had a stunning effect on Nintendo’s (who are also behind the game) stock price, pushing it up 30% in the last week, but it could also be of significant use to businesses, as our favourite blog this week from LinkedIn suggests.
